Who can do this with default user permissions?
School Network Administrators
The Administrator Dashboard is a feature available with Freckle's Premium Edition. It allows administrators to be involved in the data tracking and assessing of pupils school-wide. The Administrator Dashboard opens by default when an administrator logs in to Freckle. Administrators can also get to the dashboard from Renaissance by selecting Freckle on the home page:
When going through Renaissance, administrators who also function as teachers will have to choose whether to proceed to Freckle as an administrator or a teacher (which will determine which dashboard they arrive at).
Dashboard Page
The Dashboard page gives administrators oversight and control over their class list and licence utilisation:
- Administrators can toggle between the schools they manage or select an All Schools option from the drop-down list at the top left of the page.
- Administrators can see the total number of records in their Freckle class list and drill into specific pupils, teachers and courses with search and filtering functionality.
- Administrators can sync updated class lists by uploading .csvs into Freckle.
- Administrators can merge duplicate pupils and remove outdated courses from their class list.
- The ability to see the number of pupil-licences purchased and the current licence allocation is available in the "Manage Licences" section. (To get to the Manage Licences page, select a school from the School dropdown at the top of the Administrator Dashboard and the number of licences for each subject will be shown.)
- Complete teacher control: Admins can enter any teacher's individual teacher home using the blue arrow next to that teacher's name. They can remove any teachers from being affiliated with that particular school by selecting the red X.
- Admins can also invite new teachers at their site to join Freckle at the bottom right of the page.
Growth Data Page
How Is Growth Calculated?
The Growth Data page follows pupils' progress through the adaptive levels in each domain within a given date range. Once a pupil has practised four sessions within a domain, that practice data will be used to calculate their growth. If a pupil is successfully completing material and moving up in level within the date range, they are "growing". If they are not successfully completing material and moving down or staying at the same level, they are "struggling".
Year Growth is the number of years a pupil has progressed within a domain. Decimal values represent the percentage of material covered in the year they are practising in. As an example, growth of 1.2 for a pupil starting at a 3.0 year would mean that they have completed the year three material, are now practising at the year four level, and have already covered 20% of the year four material for that domain.
The numbers an administrator sees in the dashboard are an average of growth across domains. For example, if a pupil moves up 0.4 years in one domain, and 0.2 years in another domain, their overall growth would be 0.3 years.
To get a more detailed look at a pupil's year growth for a specific domain, simply double click the pupil's name on the "Growth by Pupil" chart.
Growth Data Chart Types
The Growth Data page provides a wealth of data on how pupils are progressing while using the Freckle program. Administrators begin by selecting the subject they want to track, and can then decide whether they want to see an overview of all of the schools they support or drill down into a specific school (further refining the data by year, domain, date range and/or rostering source). Once those options are selected, the page will update to display a number of charts, including:
- Growing versus Struggling Pupils Overall: See the total number of "Growing" versus "Struggling" pupils within the selected time range.
- Average Year Growth: See the average amount of year growth for all "Growing" pupils over the selected time period.
- Growing versus Struggling Pupils by Year: See the total number of "Growing" versus "Struggling" pupils within the selected time range for each year.
- Growing versus Struggling Pupils by Domain: See the total number of "Growing" versus "Struggling" pupils within the selected time range for each domain.
- Average Number of Questions Answered: See the average number of questions answered by "Growing" versus "Struggling" pupils.
- Average Accuracy: See the average accuracy on practice sessions by "Growing" versus "Struggling" pupils.
- Average Practice Sessions: See the average number of sessions completed by "Growing" versus "Struggling" pupils.
- Average Practice in Minutes: See the average number of minutes spent in practice sessions by "Growing" versus "Struggling" pupils.
- Growth by School/Teacher/Pupil Overviews: See a breakdown of overall growth and usage by school, teacher and pupil.
Proficiency Data Page
The Proficiency Data page gives admins access to the Maths Adaptive Year Report. They also have the option to view reports that were pulled in the past by selecting Legacy Report.
The Maths Adaptive Year Report gives insight into how each school/year/pupil is performing within a given learning domain on Freckle's adaptive maths practice. By allowing administrators to view data at both a high level and drill down into individual pupils, this report ensures they have the data needed to make decisions that will drive pupil growth.
Admins begin by selecting the year, domain and school(s) they would like to monitor and the report will automatically populate with the data requested. From there, they can see the average year at which each school is performing within that domain, the number of pupils below/within/above year in that domain and a colour chart to give a quick read on how that school is performing within that domain.
Selecting a school with data available will show where each pupil falls within that domain (Insufficient Data, Below, Within, Above). It will also allow admins to view the data at the teacher level to determine whether PD or teacher planning groups are necessary.
Assessments Page
The Assessments page allows administrators to create year benchmark assessments and push those assessments out to schools/teachers/pupils. These assessments will be completed by pupils in the Freckle program, and once completed, can be monitored by admins for pupil performance on the Assessments page.
The homepage will show the date an assessment was created, the year for which that assessment was created, the domains it covered, the completion % and teacher to whose class it was assigned. By selecting See Details, administrators can monitor assessment performance at the class, pupil and specific question level.
Overall, the Administrator Dashboard is an extremely useful tool for administrators to stay informed about progress and performance at the school, teacher and individual pupil level. The data available can be used to easily isolate next steps and provide recommendations for improvement at any level.
