Constructed Response prompts allow teachers to assess pupil understanding of a given concept at a higher depth of knowledge than traditional question formats like multiple choice and fill in the blank. Freckle currently offers 3 different constructed response prompts for every objective in domains covered throughout middle years and Algebra. Each constructed response prompt falls into one of the following categories:
- Conceptual: Conceptual constructed response prompts are designed to get at the heart of the concept being assessed in whichever format best fits.
- Visual: Visual constructed response prompts are designed to help pupils visualise the concept being assessed.
- Situational: Situational constructed response prompts are designed to place pupils in a real-world situation where they may encounter the concept being assessed.
These constructed response prompts have myriad uses in the classroom, including:
- Test prep—The prompts mirror constructed response prompts found on national testing.
- Groupwork—The prompts are a great way to foster collaboration as pupils work together on more difficult problems.
- Do Now—Many teachers elect to use the prompts as a review of previously covered material when pupils walk in and get settled for class.
- Exit Tickets—These prompts are a great way to determine whether your pupils truly understood the material. The nature of the prompts prevents pupils from being able to guess or narrow down answer choices.
