Teachers
Freckle's Fact Practice helps pupils build maths fact fluency by testing their ability to recall the basic facts in the following operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, integers and operations—both accurately and quickly.
There are two Fact Practice reports that enable teachers to track pupil performance and progress on each operation. Digitalised fact practice and detailed reporting about pupil performance can help teachers quickly target specific facts for certain pupils and ensure that they are getting the practice they need.
To access the Fact Practice reports, select Reports in the left navigation bar of the home page and then select Fact Practice.
Pupil Activity Report
The Fact Practice Pupil Activity report shows pupils' fact practice sessions completed during a given time frame (customisable by the teacher in Freckle's premium edition). Teachers can see the total coins pupils have earned (from all practice), the number of fact practice questions answered during the time period and the accuracy and total time spent on those sessions.
By using the drop-down arrow next to each pupil's name, teachers can see the specific sessions that pupils completed, broken down by operation. They can see the steps pupils are working on within each operation and their accuracy on each of those steps. This gives teachers detailed information about how pupils are performing in each operation and the operations with which pupils are struggling.
Fact Mastery Report
The Fact Practice Mastery Report shows pupil progress on the Fact Practice program by operation. Teachers can see all pupils in their class and what step they are each on in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. By selecting the small question mark (?) next to each operation name, teachers can see the total number of steps in that operation.
By selecting the arrow in the Report column (at the end of the row for a pupil's name), teachers can also see a more detailed breakdown of how pupils are doing on each fact. Select the various operation buttons at the top to see pupil mastery by operation. As pupils work through Fact Practice sessions, teachers can use the color key to see which facts pupils have mastered, which facts they are currently working on and which facts they have not yet practised. In the image below, I am looking at Eliza Collins's progress on addition facts. I can see which facts she has mastered (in dark green) and which she is working on (in light green).
Note that although Freckle automatically adapts to a pupil's "just-right" step, you can edit a pupil's step if you think it is necessary: select Edit Step above the upper-right corner of the table. You will see a pop-up window with the available practice steps for the practice area.
Select the appropriate step for your pupil. When you confirm the change by selecting Update Step, this will replace the pupil's starting and current steps with the selected practice step. Note: Prior progress made in this domain will no longer be available.
This report works in tandem with the Fact Practice Activity Report. You can use the Mastery Report to see what facts pupils are currently practising and the Activity Report to see how well they are doing when they practise them.
Together, these reports help teachers stay better informed about pupil progress towards fact fluency, utilise that information to give pupils targeted practice and ensure that pupils are building skills that will enable them to be strong mathematicians.
